Introduction:<\/strong> A rela\u00e7\u00e3o intr\u00ednseca entre sa\u00fade e meio ambiente vem ocupando um espa\u00e7o cada vez maior no cen\u00e1rio mundial e cient\u00edfico devido ao crescimento da popula\u00e7\u00e3o humana. Com esta expans\u00e3o, poluentes, em quantidades crescentes, v\u00eam sendo liberados no meio ambiente, e cada vez mais indiv\u00edduos a eles est\u00e3o expostos. A fim de avaliar a exposi\u00e7\u00e3o pr\u00e9-natal a poluentes ambientais, foi realizado um estudo piloto, componente do corpo de estudos e pesquisas que comp\u00f5em o Projeto Inf\u00e2ncia e Poluentes Ambientais (PIPA).<\/p>

Objective:<\/strong> To investigate the occurrence of respiratory changes in children aged 0 to 6 months with prenatal exposure to environmental pollutants, metals, and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).<\/p>

Methods:<\/strong> The study population of the project was constituted by 73 babies (and their mothers) born at Maternidade Escola da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, who attended at least one follow-up visit during the follow-up period. Pregnant women under 16 years of age and twin pregnancies were excluded. Pollutants were quantified through analysis of umbilical cord blood samples.<\/p>

Results:<\/strong> Dos 73 beb\u00eas que compareceram a pelo menos uma avalia\u00e7\u00e3o no per\u00edodo do seguimento, 38 vieram \u00e0s tr\u00eas consultas. Sobre o comparecimento em cada consulta: 52, 64 e 59 foram no 1\u00b0, 2\u00b0 e 3\u00b0 seguimentos, respectivamente. N\u00e3o foi verificada rela\u00e7\u00e3o entre a exposi\u00e7\u00e3o pr\u00e9-natal a poluentes ambientais e a ocorr\u00eancia de altera\u00e7\u00f5es respirat\u00f3rias (presen\u00e7a de sinal, sintoma ou doen\u00e7a respirat\u00f3ria no seguimento) nos beb\u00eas que retornaram para o seguimento. Os resultados mostram que cerca de 67,7% quantific\u00e1veis de \u00e1cido perfluorooctano sulf\u00f4nico (PFOS) e \u00e1cido perfluorooctan\u00f3ico (PFOA). Observou-se uma maior frequ\u00eancia de altera\u00e7\u00f5es respirat\u00f3rias no grupo de beb\u00eas que n\u00e3o apresentavam exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao PFOA no 2\u00b0 seguimento (p = 0,02). No entanto, o inverso foi observado em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a exposi\u00e7\u00e3o aos PFOS, com maior ocorr\u00eancia
of respiratory changes in the exposed group (64%), in the three follow-up periods (47.8%, 48% and 56.6%, respectively), although without significant difference. Metals were found in 100% of the samples and a weak and negative correlation was verified between exposure to cadmium and exposure to mercury with the occurrence of respiratory changes in the 3rd follow-up period.<\/p>

Conclusion:<\/strong> O estudo identificou n\u00edveis detect\u00e1veis de metais em 100% das amostras avaliadas de sangue do cord\u00e3o umbilical, o que corrobora com o aumento progressivo da exposi\u00e7\u00e3o, com consequente eleva\u00e7\u00e3o dos \u00edndices e poluentes nos meios ambientais. Esses dados indicam a necessidade de realiza\u00e7\u00e3o de novas investiga\u00e7\u00f5es, com acompanhamento por um per\u00edodo maior de tempo e um n\u00famero maior de participantes na popula\u00e7\u00e3o de estudo, a fim de avaliar as consequ\u00eancias da exposi\u00e7\u00e3o precoce a poluentes ambientais e seus efeitos na sa\u00fade infantil.<\/p>
