Professor Volney Câmara is appointed emeritus professor at UFRJ

Volney de Magalhães Câmara, full professor at the Institute of Collective Health Studies of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IESC/UFRJ) and member of the PIPA Project steering committee, was named emeritus professor of UFRJ.

The title is granted by educational institutions to retired professors as recognition of the relevance of their scholarly output and scientific activity and their high degree of visibility in the exercise of their academic work.

O professor iniciou sua jornada com a graduação em Medicina pela UFRJ em 1974, seguida por Mestrado em Londres, Doutorado pela Fundação Oswaldo Cruz e Pós-Doutorado pelo ECO/PAHO. Sua expertise em Saúde Ambiental o levou a ser consultor da Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde em Washington e de instituições de renome no Brasil. Sua pesquisa foca na Epidemiologia dos efeitos dos poluentes químicos, especialmente o mercúrio, contribuindo significativamente para o campo da Saúde Coletiva e Ambiental.

Professor Volney is a great inspiration for the entire PIPA team for all his knowledge and, especially, for being a kind and friendly figure.
