PIPA researchers participate in international meeting on children's environmental health in California

The PIPA general coordinator, Prof. Dr. Carmen Ildes Rodrigues Fróes Asmus, and researchers Nataly Damasceno and Maira Mazzoto, participated in the ISCHE Retreat 2025, one of the most relevant international meetings on child environmental health, held from June 3 to 6 in California (USA). The group represented the project in discussions on environmental impacts in childhood and ways to translate science into concrete actions.

Organized by International Society for Children's Health and the Environment (ISCHE), the meeting had as its theme “From Complexity to Clarity: Translating Environmental Health Research into Impact for Children’s Health” and brought together specialists from various areas at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge, on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The program addressed global challenges in children's environmental health, such as exposure to toxic substances, air pollution, psychosocial stress, and climate change — all factors that affect the health of babies and young children with particular severity.

Over the four days of the retreat, the event promoted sessions on scientific communication, use of evidence in public policies, community engagement strategies, research ethics, and training of environmental health professionals. It also held workshops and debates that reinforced the role of scientific knowledge as a driver of social transformation.
