First meeting of ConPIPA

In a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between participating families and the Childhood and Environmental Pollutants Project team (PIPA/UFRJ), we held the first meeting of Conselho de Famílias PIPA (ConPIPA). This meeting took place on June 23rd at the UFRJ Maternity School, marking an important moment of interaction, dialogue, and collaboration.

ConPIPA, a body with deliberative, consultative, and supervisory functions, brings together family members of project participants and members of the research team. Its objective is to ensure the representativeness and active participation of families in the project's decisions and actions. Among its primary functions are the analysis, monitoring, and updating of PIPA Project actions, as well as overseeing and proposing strategies for participant retention.

At the first council meeting, we were joined by six project participants: Ana Rute, Beatriz, Silvania, Juliana, Ester, and Ana Paula, in addition to members of the research team. The meeting began with an icebreaker activity, creating a welcoming and conducive environment for dialogue. This was followed by a detailed presentation of the project, which sought to clarify important aspects of the research and reinforce the commitment to the rights and well-being of the participants.

One of the most memorable moments was the creation of a word cloud, reflecting the meaning of the PIPA project for the families. Words such as "Emotional Connection," "Knowledge," "Acceptance," "Love," "Affection," and "Care" highlighted the emotional and educational impact of the project. This exercise demonstrated the positive bond we are building with the communities involved.

The families also shared challenges they faced, especially regarding the incompatibility between their work schedules and project evaluations, as well as difficulties with commuting. These valuable contributions are fundamental for us to adjust and improve our activities and processes. The meeting concluded with a collective coffee break, further strengthening the bonds between all those present, and with a special invitation to the 1st PIPA Reunion, scheduled for August 5, 2023.

This first ConPIPA meeting is just one of many steps in our ongoing journey to ensure responsive, inclusive research that connects with the needs and expectations of the families who generously contribute to the PIPA Project. We will continue to document and share our initiatives and progress, reaffirming our commitment to transparency and community engagement. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to building a lasting and meaningful relationship between participating mothers and our research team.
